Introducing Betavine Books

screen shot

Ebooks, ebooks, ebooks – they seem to be everywhere at the moment. No doubt there are several factors behind this seemingly increasing popularity. The rise of the mobile app store for one, new dedicated hardware and also a certain amount of controversy thrown in for good measure.

In order to promote the browser as an application platform and to raise awareness of these innovations we’ve built a demo app, and, you guessed it, it’s an ebook reader. The idea was to showcase the features of modern mobile browsers and really test the water when it comes to browser apps / widgets vs. native apps. How close can they get to the native app experience? And, are native apps necessarily the best solution when it comes to delivering some, shall we say, less complex mobile applications?

Betavine Books is a web app which currently contains a small selection of public domain titles.
